Sergeant Edwin I. Seeger enlisted November 27, 1942 in Northfield, Vermont at the age of 18, while enrolled at Norwich University. He was the son of  Lieutenant Colonel Frederick M. and Dorothy K. Seeger of Lincoln.

Sergeant Seeger was assigned to the 18th Cavalry, Reconnaissance Squadron for active duty in 1943. In the winter of 1944, he was participating in the Battle of the Ardennes, otherwise known as the Battle of the Bulge, the costliest battle ever fought by the U.S. Army which suffered over 100,000 casualties.

Sergeant Seeger was killed in action December 16, 1944 near Winterschied, Germany. His remains are interred at the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, Hombourg, Belgium, along with those of another Lincolnite, PFC Ray C. Smith, Jr.

Memorial services were held January 1945 at Lincoln’s First Parish Church.
